SCRC's 2006 - 2007
Performance Schedule
CHARLIE COX RUNS WITH SCISSORS
BY MICHAEL MCKEEVER
DIRECTED BY TOM EVANS
November 2 -19, 2006
It’s a truism that ultimately all plays are about “love” and “death.” In Charlie Cox Runs With Scissors, playwright Michael McKeever has given that idea a marvelously humorous spin by creating two characters who actually embody those actions—Death is called Wally and Love is Kiki. As the play unfolds they each comically guide Charlie toward themselves while he is stranded at a rundown motel somewhere between Phoenix and nowhere. When sparks begin to fly between Charlie and the motel keeper, Nell, Wally redoubles his efforts and seems to be winning until Kiki shows up oozing charm and good sense. SCRC has assembled a superb cast of “regulars” for this romantic comedy.
OVER THE RAINBOW: Harold Arlen Meets Johnny Mercer
BY AL BALKIN
December 12 - 17, 2006
When people think of “Over The Rainbow” Judy Garland and The Wizard of Oz comes to mind. Hardly anyone is aware of the composer, Harold Arlen. Irving Berlin described Harold Arlen, “He wasn't as well known as some of us, but he was a better songwriter than most of us, and will be missed by all of us.” The “us” besides Irving, referred to George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, and Jerome Kern.” If the “us” included lyricists, Johnny Mercer, one of Harold’s greatest collaborators, would surely be there. Dr. Al Balkin returns to the SCRC stage with this new show.
Odd Jobs
By Frank Moher
Directed by Tom Evans
January 18 – February 4, 2007
Canadian playwright Frank Moher weaves a multifaceted plot graced with matching dashes of comedy and love using three highly dimensioned characters - an out of work factory worker, his Quebecois wife making minimum wage taking complaints for Sears, and a seventy year old retired math professor. The cast includes Nick Newell (Wally in Charlie Cox), Tracy Jo Jungbauer (Sarah Schorr in Trying), Barbara Farrar, Miss Nell in Yellow Dog Crossing). SCRC regulars will recall the wonderful heartwarming Canadian playwriting tradition of Trying, The Drawer Boy and Auntie and Me.
“Whimsically humorous…a little gem of a play.”

A NIGHT IN NOVEMBER
BY MARIE JONES
DIRECTED BY TOM EVANS
Starring Jim Stark
February 20 – March 4, 2007
A Night in November, is a charming, insightful and wickedly funny one man show written by Marie Jones, the Irish writer who gave us STONES IN HIS POCKETS a couple of seasons ago. Mixing Irish nationalism, the Protestant/Catholic rift, the natural competition between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, all set around the European’s unbridled passion for soccer, Ms Jones arranges a series of engaging conflicts which keep us laughing heartily as we peer into the Irish soul jiggling around in each of us regardless of our ethnicity. Playing the one man show will be Jim Stark, back from last season’s delightful turn in AUNTIE and ME.
