RED
“RED,” the first show of South Carolina Repertory’s 21st season, opens October 25, 2012 for a 3-week run through November 11.
When “RED” was on Broadway two years ago — straight from London — it won six Tony Awards including Best Play and Best Direction, the most of any play that season. Under the direction of seasoned actor and director, Chip Egan, New York actor David Sitler plays Mark Rothko, the angry abstract expressionist artist, who has a passionate relationship with his work. When the elegant Four Seasons restaurant in New York opened in 1959, Rothko, famous for his color-field work, was paid a huge sum to do a series of paintings for its walls. Rothko is a complicated man who relishes the role of the temperamental artist and does not respond simply to anything. In “RED,” he hires the somewhat shy Ken (SCRC alum Matt Mundy, also from NY) to assist him on the project, while insisting he is not the young man’s teacher. This outstanding play, is a “competently entertaining, intelligent 90 minutes of drama. A MUST-SEE!!” Make your reservations now by calling the SCRC Box Office at 342 2057 or online at www.hiltonheadtheatre.com
